Coroner Steve Nonn of Madison County made the announcement on Monday that the remains of a man who had been reported missing in Wood River the previous year have been conclusively identified.
Nonn identified the deceased individual as Vernon L. Law, who was 36 years old, in a press release. In Hartford, at the site of the former Chemetco industrial plant, the skeletal remains were discovered just last week. According to Nonn, dental records were consulted in order to arrive at a conclusive identification during a forensic anthropological investigation that took place on Monday afternoon.
According to the news release, the preliminary results of the examination did not reveal any signs of trauma that could indicate that the victim was the victim of foul play. The 21st of July was the last time anyone saw Law.
