Scott Weinberg Obituary, Death – On the morning of Saturday, May 13, 2023, Scott S. Weinberg, a retired professor who had previously served as Interim Dean of the CED, passed suddenly unexpectedly. It is with great regret that we share this news.
In 1982, Scott began his professional life at the University of Georgia, where he immediately gained a positive reputation as a member of the CED. During the course of his thirty-year career at the University of Georgia, Scott held the positions of Associate Dean of the College of Education and Development (CED) from 2003 to 2006, Interim Dean from 2006 to 2008, and Associate Dean once more until his retirement in 2012. In addition to this, Scott has received three CED teaching prizes and has written one book on landscape architecture, as well as co-edited two volumes.
In addition to that, he was the Chair of the University Council and the President of the Georgia Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). Both of these positions are held by the ASLA. As part of the University of Georgia’s Cortona Study Away program, Scott spent his summers in Italy as a teacher. There, he formed friendships that will last a lifetime. In addition to this, his students regarded him highly as a respected educator, friend, and mentor.
All of those who had the privilege of calling him a friend will grieve his passing in their own unique ways. On the afternoon of Thursday, May 18, 2023, between the hours of 2:00 and 3:00 PM local time in West Babylon, New York’s New Montefiore Cemetery will play host to a memorial service honoring the life of Scott.
