Ray Koenning Obituary, Death – Ray Lamar Koenning, 76, died at his ranch on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. Anton Louie and Selma Fuhrken Koenning gave birth to him on August 11, 1946, in P&S Hospital in Alice, Texas. He grew up and went to school in Agua Dulce, Texas, with his parents and brothers. He was an avid athlete in his youth, competing in football, basketball, and track.
He graduated from Agua Dulce High School in 1965 and began working as a manager for Whataburger of Alice, then as an Area Supervisor, and finally as an Operations Executive for the Andrews family while serving in the Army Reserve for 5 years. In 1984, he purchased Dairy Burger from Ruben Lassman, Jr., and in August 1985, he launched a second location in Alice, where it has been a community mainstay for more than four decades. He served as a deacon at First Baptist Church, where he also taught Sunday School and participated on other church committees. He loved hunting and bay fishing and could frequently be found in the woods or on the water with family or friends.
His father, Anton Koenning, his mother, Selma Koenning, his brothers, Gene Koenning, Donald “Doc” Koenning, Allan Koenning, and his sister, Lois Koenning, all predeceased him. On Saturday, May 13, 2023, a visitation will be held from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 AM at The First Baptist Church, 501 E. 2nd St, Alice, Texas 78332. At a later date, a private family burial will take place. Donations can be sent to The First Baptist Church, 501 East 2nd Street, Alice, Texas 78332, in place of flowers.
