His brother Robert Chavez, who was his immediate predecessor, passed away before him. His children Paul Chavez (Karla), Michele Avila (Larry), Edward Chavez, and Elizabeth Chavez, as well as his siblings Mela Barela and Gloria Herrera, as well as the mother of his children, Marcy Martinez, are among those who are able to carry on his legacy after his passing. In addition, he is left behind by six grandkids.
