Michael Foster Obituary, Death – We remember our brother, Retired Sparks Firefighter/Paramedic Michael Foster, with great sadness. For three years, Mike fought valiantly against the cancer he contracted on the job.
His resilience and willpower allowed him to outlive his doctors’ predictions by three years, giving him more time with his wife, Julie, and their three sons. Mike served the people of Sparks for nearly 20 years as a firefighter after spending many years as a paramedic in Nevada.
Many people in our community relied on him for help and looked up to him as a teacher, a guide, a friend, and a father figure. He touched everyone he met with his unwavering optimism, infectious sense of humor, dedication to his work, and enthusiasm for the visual arts, rock ‘n’ roll, fast vehicles, and (of course) Halloween and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Mike’s fight and will to be with us was inspired by his wife, Julie, and their sons, Shawn, Dereck, and Josh.
Mike, you battled valiantly; now it’s time for you to recover. We love you, and we’ll handle the rest, from your fellow firefighters. Get some shut-eye, Bro!
We’d also like to express our gratitude to everyone who contributed to Mike and his family’s fundraising efforts. You were incredibly kind to him and his family during their time of need, and for that, we are eternally thankful.
