John Traven Obituary, Death – On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at the age of 79, John Joseph “Jack” Traven, who resided in Joliet, abruptly passed away at his house. He was the son of the late Adolph and Ann (Horvath) Traven and was a graduate of Joliet Township Central High School with the Class of 1961. He was born in Joliet on September 22, 1943, and he passed away in the year 2011.
John was a proud veteran who had served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He had served during the conflict. After many years of devoted service at the Theodore Street store, he finally decided to retire after working as a meat cutter for Jewel Food Stores in a number of their sites across the country. Jack bred and competed with homing pigeons, and each fall he looked forward with bated breath to the beginning of the racing season. In addition to that, he was a passionate angler, and there was no species of fish that he wouldn’t pursue. He also had a passion for gardening, and the wild birds and wildlife in the area will be sad to see him go.
He is survived by his devoted son, John G. Traven of Joliet; one sister, Patricia Schager of Crest Hill; his wife’s sister and husband, Jane and William Imrie; and a large number of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was married to Charlotte (Gronemann) Traven for 57 years. Charlotte is also from Joliet. John G. Traven is also from Joliet. John G. In addition to that, he was Ron Chovan and James Vanderhyden’s best buddy throughout their entire lives.
There will be a visitation for John Traven on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, which is located at 3200 Black Road in Joliet, Illinois 60431. At ten o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, there will be funeral services held at the funeral home. St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet will be used for the interment, and the United States Army will be responsible for presenting military honors at the service.
