James Campbell Obituary, James Campbell Has Passed Away

James Campbell Obituary, Death – James After a brief illness, Ashley Campbell, known as Ashley, died on May 13, 2023. Ashley was born in 1966 in Taylor County, Florida, to James Marshall Campbell and Patsy Carol Morrison and raised in Perry, Florida, where he graduated from Taylor County High School in 1984.

After graduating, Ashley worked. Ashley returned to Tallahassee, Florida, to work as a records manager for the Florida Department of State and Florida Department of Corrections after managing, owning, and selling his furniture company in Opelika, Alabama. Ashley departed from the FLDOC in November 2022.

Ashley met Roxann, his “pretty redheaded girl,” in 2000 after returning to Tallahassee from Opelika. They married in 2005 and were together until his death.

Ashley loved the old days and the old ways and found his greatest joys in the simple things: walking the fields and woods looking for arrowheads, catching a fine bass, shooting a bow, walking behind a good gun dog, pursuing a trophy whitetail, hearing a wild turkey break a spring morning wide open with a gobble, navigating the wild rivers, streams, and the Gulf of Mexico he’d known since childhood with just a compass and a prayer, and preparing to perfection

Ashley realized that these simple talents were vital to the spirit. Ashley and Roxann bred German Shorthair Pointers together. Ashley was proud of their breeding and training initiatives, which were successful in the field and show arena.

Ashley was most proud to show off his outstanding field dogs. He loved taking friends quail hunting and offering them the rare opportunity to walk behind and shoot over excellent gun dogs in the Red Hills Region.

Ashley lived like he would rather be in the woods or on the lake, with those buddies, in that time, with nothing to prove, than anywhere else. Ashley realized that a man’s wealth came from life, love, and friendship.

Ashley, like many good and honest Old Florida woodsmen, was a born storyteller and entertained his family and friends with his adventures (and misadventures!). Ashley shared his passions.

Ashley’s maternal grandparents, Marvin and Betty Morrison of Perry, Florida, and paternal grandparents died. Ashley is survived by his wife Roxann of Havana, Florida, his daughter Chloe Clark (Ben) of Huntsville, Alabama, and members of the Campbell and Morrison families.

Ashley desired that memorial donations be sent to Big Bend Hospice Foundation, www.bigbendhospice.org, or Southeast German Shorthair Pointer Rescue, www.segsprescue.org.
