Simms spent his career as a goal-kicking halfback, five-eighth, and fullback with the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL), now known as the National Rugby League (NRL).
He made his South Sydney debut in 1966 and remained with the club until his retirement in 1976. Simms’ outstanding goal-kicking ability was one of his most notable accomplishments. He was well-known for his consistency and precision in converting tries and kicking penalty goals. Simms owns a number of goal-kicking records, including the highest percentage of successful kicks in a season and the most consecutive goals kicked in a game.
