Demetrius Poles Obituary, Death – Demetrius excelled at being a friend, guide, father, spouse, and coach. Plus a whole bunch of other stuff.
He loved basketball and the team spirit it promoted more than anything else. While teaching basketball at Crispin High School, he was also a great gym rat who participated in every extracurricular activity he could.
That’s not too far from the truth. As a coach and CB mentor, he did everything he could for these kids. His cancer battle has been widely covered over the previous few years.
Even as he encountered setback after setback, he persisted in his tutoring and his love for others. Even if he was a great player back in the day, he found his true calling in coaching and teaching the game to kids.
He was a wonderful educator and had a knack for seeing the big picture. He personified everything that Crispin Basketball stands for. His boys, Jelani and Jayden, are regulars in our program as both players and coaches.
They have been with my boys at Rowan and beyond from the very beginning, taking part in all of their activities and spending many hours in the gym with them.
Demetrius and his lovely wife, Sandra, are great individuals who would be grateful for your help. Allow me to elaborate. I value Demetrius highly and will miss him terribly.
After years of observing him, I’ve said to a few people today how much I miss training with him. Therefore, we have not reached the end.
In the meanwhile, our Rowan colleagues have set up a Gofundme page to assist Sandra and the boys (link in bio).
We’ll update you later with details about services, etc. In the coming weeks, months, and years, there will be a requirement. Sandra has been an incredible asset to them, and they have been an incredible asset to our local basketball community. We appreciate your willingness to lend a hand.
