Carlyon Lane Obituary, Death – Carlyon Robinson Lane, my beautiful mother, died quietly at her home in Kansas City, Missouri, on May 16. She was 89 years old. Carlyon was born in the Ozark County town of Romance in 1933. Carlyon has spent the majority of her life in Kansas City, beginning with her time at KCKN radio station, CIT Corporation, and her 20+ years at Midwest Women’s Health Care in North Kansas City.
She married Bert Lane in 1964, becoming not only a wife but also the mother of three little boys whom she reared without reluctance. Carlyon and Bert had their fourth child in 1970. Carlyon was proud of her Ozark County background, often boasting about her parents’ wisdom and brilliance. She frequently told stories about family and acquaintances from previous generations. Carlyon embraced her roots in “Hillbilly Country” rather than allowing others to define her.
Her passion for country and Western music was fueled by her time at KCKN, where she met innumerable country music legends. She, too, was a city girl with a young soul who enjoyed shopping and nights out with friends. She enjoyed gardening and going to estate sales to locate the perfect piece for her 53-year-old home.
She was a woman of tremendous strength and independence who saw the best in everyone and treated them with unfailing care. Carlyon was predeceased by her parents, Virgil and Lena Robinson, brothers Russell and Doug Robinson, and her husband of 16 years, Bert Lane. Her four children, Larry, Randy, Darrell, and Greg Lane, as well as nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, survive her.
